CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

Custom professional development ecosystems that build clinical excellence

Training does not create excellence by itself.

Excellence is what happens when an agency builds a professional development
environment that actually supports growth over time. That includes strong curriculum,
yes. It also includes supervision systems, feedback loops, and deliberate practice
structures that help clinicians build real skill.

I partner with agencies to build these environments.

As a clinician, scholar, and teacher deeply familiar with the literature, I help clients
create custom curricula and professional development systems based on what has
emerged over the past 20 years about what really improves clinical outcomes.

Why curriculum matters (and why most curricula fall short)

Agencies need clinicians who can deliver evidence-based care. That is foundational.
But learning what to do is not enough.
Clinical excellence comes when clinicians develop:

  • didactic knowledge (what to do)

  • procedural skill (how to do it)

  • conditional judgment (when to apply what, with whom, and why)

The agencies with the best outcomes are not the ones with the most trainings. They are
the ones that build systems where learning becomes part of everyday practice.

What we build together

Curriculum development can include:

A curriculum map that fits your agency

We co-create a roadmap aligned with your:

  • population and acuity

  • service model (outpatient, inpatient, residential, crisis, justice-involved, etc.)

  • staffing structure and roles

  • operational constraints and workflow realities

Skill-based learning, not passive education

Curricula include engaging learning experiences such as:

  • interactive training modules

  • structured exercises and small-group practice

  • deliberate practice assignments

  • guided reflection and case application

  • supervisor coaching tools that translate learning into performance

Systems that make training stick
This is where many agencies struggle. Professional development works when infrastructure supports it.

I help agencies build systems for:

  • clinician assessment and benchmarking

  • feedback-informed treatment

  • supervision that builds skill (not just case discussion)

  • deliberate practice that is structured, realistic, and sustained

Leveraging AI for next-generation training

I am actively exploring how artificial intelligence can upgrade clinician development in ways that were not possible before.

This includes the potential for:

  • AI-assisted assessment of clinician knowledge and skill

  • individualized learning plans based on strengths and growth edges

  • multimedia platforms that adapt to each clinician over time

  • gamification and contingent reinforcement to improve engagement and retention

For large agencies and national systems, this is especially promising. It offers a pathway to scale individualized professional development without sacrificing quality.

Who this is for

I work with:

  • small and mid-sized agencies

  • multi-site systems

  • hospital and health system programs

  • justice-involved treatment organizations

  • national treatment systems seeking scalable excellence

Curricula can be designed for a team, a discipline, or an entire organization.

Curriculum Development Process

Assess → Co-Design → Build → Implement → Iterate

Assess
We start by understanding your clinicians, your patients, your workflow, and what is not working as well as it could.

Co-Design
We build the roadmap together so it fits your culture, your goals, and your reality.

Build
I develop curriculum and learning experiences that combine knowledge with skill practice and clinical judgment.

Implement
We embed the curriculum into supervision, operations, and professional development
routines.

Iterate
We use feedback to refine the system over time so it stays relevant, engaging, and
effective.

Next step

If you are building (or rebuilding) your agency’s professional development environment,
I would be glad to help.
